Pendolino: Pendolino Improved: Origin - Tuscany Italy c1995 The Fruit: Pendolino is best known for its ability to produce abundant amounts of potent pollen for a long period of time. In Italy it is normal for Pendolino to be planted with both Leccino and Frantoio at a ratio of one to five to ensure that the potential of fruit set is reached. It was with this variety that we won "Best of Show" at the 1999 Olive Oil Awards with pure varietal Pendolino Olive Oil.
Agronomic Characteristics: The Pendolino has weeping foliage, which is where the name comes from ie. branches swing like a pendulum. The Pendolino olive is early ripening with a high percentage of good quality oil. The Pendolino will machine harvest and is regarded as cold tolerant.
Comments: The combination of all three varieties produce high yielding quality oil. The mother stock was imported in 1995 from the University of Italy.
